Programs

Follow this link to start any program on your computer. You might have to look in several places. This can be organized by moving the programs around with the mouse (In Windows 95 only with the explorer: right click on the start button and choose explore)

Documents

Just worked on a document but you forgot with which program? Your latest 15 documents are displayed here.

Settings

Here you can control anything on your computer; for instance your mouse, your colors and your sounds.  
It is also the way to get to your printer and control them.

Find (see also FIND)

Great search tool. A shortcut would be WINDOWS-F. (
Find a file by name, date, text in the file, location or extension.

When you use Find you can look for the name of the file, or the text in a file. The last one takes a lot more time, so make sure you indicate where in your computer you want it to look.

Shutdown

This is the only proper way to shut down the computer. If you are viewing the desktop ALT-F4 will also work.

Exercise. Using the Find function even shows you where programs are in the start menu. Find where the "paint" program is located. Then note where the shortcut is in the Start Menu.

Advanced.

Would you like the program in your control panel to behave like all the other programs on the Start Menu?

Right click on the Start Menu button and select "Explore"
Create a new folder in the "Start Menu" folder that is open in the Explorer.
Type for the name of the the new folder:
Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}
