Unfortunately, the real menu does not look like the one in this picture.

However, all the things that you can do in your software are ultimately somewhere in the Menu. Just pick and choose your topics. Watch for little arrows! This indicates that there are even more choices.

The underlined letter indicates that you can also choose that option by choosing that letter on your keyboard.
There is almost always an option in the menu that is called Options or Preferences or Settings or Customize. If your software does not function the way you want it to, find this option in your menu and select your preferences. You can set your choices for the spell check, for the homepage, for the save procedure, for your preferred folder, etc.
Watch the menu for shortcuts. Instead of Menu Edit Select all, it is easier to hold CTRL-A. It is easier in Microsoft Explorer to hit Escape then to scramble for the mouse and hit the stop key. Other shortcuts are mentioned in HERE.
From the keyboard, you can access the menu by pressing the ALT key. After you release the ALT key, press the letter that is underlined in your choice. ALT-F-S means: Go to the Menu, Go to File, Choose Save.
In a full screen view, the menu is often hidden, until you move your mouse to the top of the screen where is usually is. Otherwise there might be a shortcut

Exercise: What is the keyboard shortcut to increase your salary in the magic menu above? Use your keyboard to open a new file. How can you undo a change in your word processor? Is there a keyboard shortcut for this as well?

Where in the menu can you find what version of the software you are working with?
