The fourteen Stations of the Cross that are part of St. James history are from the original church which was built in 1878. When the new church, the building that stands today, was built in 1912, the stations were moved to the new location. The stations originally had molding around them, but when the church was rennovated in 1999, the moldings were removed and the stations were then bordered in a gold leaf paint. Below you will find images of all our Stations of the Cross which you can meditate and pray online. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says: "The prayer of the Church venerates and honors the Heart of Jesus just as it invokes his most holy name. It adores the incarnate Word and his Heart which, out of love for men, he allowed to be pierced by our sins. Christian prayer loves to follow the way of the cross in the Savior's steps. The stations from the Praetorium to Golgotha and the tomb trace the way of Jesus, who by his holy Cross has redeemed the world." (2669). The prayers and meditations are ones from written by St. Alphonsus Ligouri. After each set of prayers and meditations follows a verse from the medieval hymn Stabat Mater (By the Cross her Station Keeping) which we sing during Lent when we make the Way of the Cross at St. James. After the introductory prayer found below, clicking on the first station will start you on your journey. Each page then will guide you to the next station. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Preparatory Prayer My Lord Jesus Christ, You have made this journey to die for me with love unutterable, and I have so many time unworthily abandoned You; but now I love You with my whole heart, and because I love You, I repent sincerely for having ever offended You. Pardon me, my God, and permit me to accompany You on this journey. You go to die for love of me; I wish also, my beloved Redeemer, to die for love of You. My Jesus, I will live and die always united to You. Dear Jesus, You go to die for very love of me. Let me bear You company; I wish to die with You.
