Here's an object that's no longer unfinished!
I found this batik at the 1998 Paducah Quilt Show and figured with some embellishment
and borders, it would make a nice wall quilt for a dragon fan I know. I covered some
cording with some of the fabric for the backing and border and stitched
it between the layers in a series of continuous overlapping loops.The figure's
scales, borders and teeth were quilted to give them more relief. The head
had metallic embroidery added to it as I felt it tended to recede into
the body. Black embroidery was added here and there for shadows to increase
the 3-D look. Some scales were tipped with beads. The background was echo-quilted;
the borders were shadow-quilted 1/4" from the seams. I haven't measured
it, but the length is between 3 and 4 feet. I used a thin cotton craft
batting I also picked up at the show.
Here's a close-up of the dragon that has brighter contrast.
