Along the Achensee on the bike path between Maurach am Achensee and Achenkirch, which lie at each end of the lake. This area is my all-time favorite. Unfortunately, there is only a hiking path on the other side of the lake; so a circular tour was not possible. (2001)

Pertisau across Achensee from the bike path.(2003)
Niedernsill Badsee (swimming lake) on the Tauernradweg along the Salzach River in Salzburg Province. This was one of those rare times when the temperature and time of day were perfect to stop for a dip. (2000) |

High above the Salzach River in Salzburg Province. Fortunately, I had snapped a brake cable and volunteered to ride ahead to the next town to get it replaced, before the decision whether to take the low road below or follow the Tauern Bike Path uphill had to be made. I chose the low road, which was fine as long as you didn't look to the right at the rocks leading down to the river. Since my brother, the assistant ride leader, had a good map, I didn't mention they would have to make a decision, not wanting to influence the decision. Needless to say, they were cursing me as they finally made their way down to the river at the next town.(2000)
Along the Ennsradweg in Styria. Could this be the set from the opening scene in "Sound of Music"? (2000) |

Round-about in St Margrethen in der Obersteirmark along the Murradweg in Styria. Here the Mur Valley has become wider and the mountains further away. (2002) |

Changing trains early in the morning in Sargans, Switzerland. Sargans is across the Rhine from Lichtenstein and about an hour from Zürich by train. It is a good jumping off point for touring the Rhine valley, Lichtenstein, and the flatter portions of Vorarlberg (the western most province in Austria). (1999) |

Wolfgangsee as seen from St. Gilgen. Wolfgansee is one of the many picturesque lakes in an area east of Salzburg called the Salzkammergut. The lakes are connected by a series of bike routes.(2002)
Monument to a 19th century road builder along Traunsee (lake) in the Salzkammergut. The lake is below and on the other side of the lion. A new road had been tunneled through the mountains along side the lake, and the old road shown here became a bike path. (2003) |

Krimml Waterfall at the headwaters of Salzach River in Salzburg Province. The Tauern Radweg accompanies the Salzach from here, through Salzburg, until it empties into the Inn River. (2000) |
|
In between trains at Zell am See along the Tauern Bike Path in Salzburg Province. Zell am See is the transfer point between the main line trains connecting Salzburg and Graz with Innsbruck and the narrow gauge Pinzgauer Bahn to Kriml and the start of the Tauern Bike Path. (2000) |

St. Anton am Arlberg in far western Tyrol. It is, along with Kitzbühl, one of the top two ski resorts in Austria. It was the only place we have ever been that was completely closed in June.(2001) |
