Exploring a topic can quickly take you from site to site. Unfortunately, some of the sites you visit during your wanderings may not be appropriate. It is easy to wander into an 

inappropriate site, 

one that contains advertisements unsuitable for children, 

or one that may contain incorrect or misleading information. 

Therefore, it is very important to have some guidelines for evaluating web sites. For younger children you may want to use kid-only sites and search engines, but be aware that although the kids' site itself may contain appropriate material, sites linked to from there may be inappropriate.
