Internet Survey (2001)
1. Name?
Jamie McDaniel
2. Were you named after anyone?
Nope
3. Do you have any pets?
None living with me right now, although I'll probably get a dog someday.
4. Do you like to ride roller coasters?
Heck yeah! I went to "gay day" at King's Island this year with
the GSA youth group and that was soooo much fun.
5. When did you last cry?
My dog, Alfie, died this July. He was a good friend and I cried
more than I had in a long time when we buried him.
I got him from the humane society when I was in the seventh
grade, but he stayed with my parents when I went away
to college.
6. If you were making a movie about you, who would play you?
Not Leonardo DiCaprio! He would be the boy my "double" would be
dating! ;)
7. Do you have any tattoos?
No, and I don't think I really want one - though they look ok on
some people.
8. Who do you admire? Reasons?
Jimmy Carter would be one person. I was not old enough to know
anything about him while he was president, but I think he has a
strong faith in God and though he is a famous Southern Baptist,
he made it clear to everyone that he could not go along with the
direction the Southern Baptist Convention is heading.
9. What is the # 1 priority in your life?
To figure out how to really love and not just say that I do.
10. What is your favorite lunch?
Ummm, maybe a bowl of Kraft Velveeta Shells & Cheese.
11. Any bad habits?
Yes, I distort my face and bite the inside of my mouth when I
get stressed. (This really is not attractive.) I also tend to
procrastinate sometimes.
12. What song do you really like at the moment?
"Wherever you will go" by The Calling. And I liked it
before it was #1 - back in October when Star Trek Enterprise
used it in their teasers.
13. If you were another person, would you be friends with you?
Maybe / Probably / idunno.
14. Are you a daredevil?
No. I tend to associate great speed and overly risky behavior
with death. But I do like roller coasters.
15. Number of piercings if any?
Zero, and it will probably stay that way, though I could see
myself getting one ear pierced - maybe. Now-a-days, it seems
the guys with pierced ears are the heterosexual wrestler
wanna-be's.
16. Have you ever told a secret you swore you wouldn't tell?
I don't think so.
17. Have you ever stolen anything?
Umm, I've burned illegal copies of software from time to time.
18. Do looks matter?
I would have to say yes, because if they didn't then I guess I
could date a girl. (Does that make sense? Discussion??)
Attractiveness is an odd thing. Who knows why one person finds
another person attractive and yet their friends do not. However,
I definitely believe commitment holds relationships together
when romance grows mundane.
19. Do you pray?
Yes. I don't think I pray as much now though as I did when I
was really involved in my Southern Baptist Church a few years
ago. And when I was fighting my sexual orientation, I cried
before God alot. I didn't know what to do with the hot
condemnation of homosexuality that was coming from the pulpit
and seemingly everywhere else and my own feelings that were just
getting stronger and could no longer be ignored - hoping they
would go away. I yearn to pray more, because I feel good in
God's presence.
20. Have you ever met anyone famous?
Umm, I got to talk with Marina Sirtis the actress that plays
Deanna Troi in Star Trek - but that was at a convention.
21. Do you play any sports or enjoy an outdoor activity?
I love to inline skate. I used to play company and church
softball.
22. Are you trendy?
Kind'a. When country was cool, I bought a cowboy hat. (now
ain't that silly)
23. Do you vent anger?
Yeah, sometimes.
24. Are you passive or aggressive?
Everybody says I'm passive because I don't cut in line or
complain to the waiter when he messes up my order slightly.
I could be more aggressive though, I guess.
25. Movies that everyone should watch?
Sixth Sense, The Matrix, Billy Elliot, Gandhi, My Dog Skip,
Titantic, and of course Star Wars.
26. What book are you reading right now?
"The Ragamuffin Gospel" by Brennan Manning.
27. Do you trust others easily?
Ummm, maybe. But I won't easily trust you if you're into
marketing or think the Southern Baptist Convention is too
liberal.
28. What was your favorite toy as a child?
He-man and GoBots
29. What class in school did you think was totally useless?
I can't think of a class that I thought was totally useless.
30. Have you ever been on radio or television?
Radio once or twice for a quick call-in contest (I made a fool
of myself), and tv twice - once when the local station
was interviewing high school kids about everything and then
somehow turned it into a segment on date rape. Then this past
May, I came out as a gay christian on tv. That's when all
my co-workers found out.
31. Do you like sappy love songs?
Yes indeed. Any song by Celine Deon that uses lots of first
and second person personal pronouns - you go girl!
32. Do you have a journal?
I don't keep a daily journal, but when I was struggling with
coming out, I wrote down a lot of my feelings in a notebook.
33. Have you ever intentionally hurt someone?
Yes. Hopefully never again though.
34. Do you like sarcasm?
Mild sarcasm can be funny if you are with friends and they know
you.
35. Do you feel understood most of the time?
By most people? Not at all. But I feel understood by a few
friends and by God. And there are a few times when I don't
understand myself.
36. Have you thought seriously about committing suicide?
To be sure, I've desperately wanted to "fade away" before -
especially during my incredibly difficult "coming out"
process. But I have an exaggerated fear of death, I think, and
that kept me from ever doing anything.
37. What is(are) your nickname(s)?
McD (pronounced Mic-D)
38. Could you be a vegetarian?
I've been 95% vegetarian for the past year. Now I only eat meat
if I go somewhere and the host has been "slaving in the kitchen"
all day and the only thing they bring out is meatloaf. Then I
will eat it and be a closeted vegetarian until I tell them later.
39. Would you ever bungee jump?
Not unless something was at stake.
40. Do you untie your shoes every time you take them off?
Hardly ever.
41. What are you worried about right now?
I have a friend from my old church who I just know is gay. He
also goes to a bible college that is very anti-gay. I worry
about him.
42. What did you use to do in the past that, now, the mere thought
makes you cringe?
I told gay jokes - and not just a few. We specifically made fun
of a teacher because we thought he was gay. Yes, I was a
insecure, punk kid with issues.
43. Do you think you are strong?
Sometimes I am very strong and sometimes I am cowardly.
44. What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
Chocolate.
45. When did you have your first real kiss?
I'm one who thinks a kiss is more than just a kiss. Since
a "real" kiss for me would be a romantic kiss with another
gay guy, then no... I've never had a real kiss. In all of high
school and college, I only went out with two girls and one
of those was a blind date set up by my mom (get a clue?!)
Anyway, I did end up giving the first girl a kiss, but that was
only because I thought I was supposed to.
46. What do you think is the meaning of life?
To act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God. And
to be in relationship with other people.
47. Have you ever had a bumper sticker on your car? What did it say?
I have a big ol' rainbow triangle on my green Mitsubishi Mirage.
48. What bumper sticker makes you mad?
"Turn or Burn", "If you're acting like there is no God - you
better be right", and "If you feel far from God - guess who
moved?" Geez! How 'bout actually studying the life of Jesus,
people?? And what would Job say about that last one?
49. Favorite quote?
"Injustice anywhere is a treat to justice everywhere" - Martin
Luther King Jr.
50. Favorite board game?
Probably Pictionary.
