19-24 Miles
Frodo, Sam and Pippin resumed their journey the next morning (September 24). We're
really starting to see some progress. It's amazing how a bit at a time adds up to some real miles!
It was about 10 a.m. by the time our friends had their breakfast and started out again. For
them the day was hot and the terrain was getting more difficult. Though they were traveling on the Stock Road, "...They went down the slope and across the stream where it dived
under the road and up the next slope, and up and down another shoulder of the hills; and by that time their cloaks, blankets, water, food and other gear already seemed a heavy burden."
We aren't carrying quite so much gear, but don't forget to drink plenty of water!
