Due to the way Geneses is recorded I suspected one could calculate the time period in which the Scriptures cover. I simply did a word search on "years". I removed any hits that were not needed to do the calculations. It took me some time to come up with a concrete method but I feel this is it. This is my result.

Gen:5:3: And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:
Time without Seth = 130.
Gen:5:4: And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:
Time with Seth = 800.
Gen:5:5: And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
Year = 930.
Gen:5:6: And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos:
Time without Enos = 105.
Gen:5:7: And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:
Time with Enos = 807.
Gen:5:8: And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.
Time with Adam = 800. Time after Adams death = 912-800 = 112. Year = 930 + 112 = 1042.
Gen:5:9: And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:
Time without Cainan = 90.

Time with Lammech = 782.

Time with Jared (grandfather) = 800 - 65 = 735. Time after Jareds death = 962 - 735 = 234. Year = 1422 + 234 = 1656.

Time with Methuselah (grandfather) = 782 - 182 = 600. Time after Methuselahs death = 950 - 600 = 350 Year = 1656 + 350 = 2006.

Time without Arphaxad = 100.

Time without Ishmael = 4 * 20 + 6 = 86. Abrams total time = 175. Time with Ishmael = 175 - 86 = 89.

Time without Isaac = 100. Time with Isaac = 175 - 100 = 75.
Gen:25:7: And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years.
All the days of Abraham = 100 + (3 * 20) + 15 = 175.
Gen:25:8: Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.
Time with Eber (great, great, great, great, grandfather) = 309 - 70 = 239. Time after Ebers death = 175 - 239 = -65. Year = 2185.
Gen:25:17: And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people.

Time with Eber (great, great, great, great, great, great, grandfather) = 167 - 100 = 67. Time after Ebers death = 100 + (4 * 20) - 67 = (100 + 80) - 67 = 113. Year = 2185 + 113 = 2298
Gen:47:28: And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years.
Time with Isaac = 180 - 60 = 120. Time after Isaacs death = 147 - 120 = 27. Year = 2298 + 27 = 2325.
Gen:50:26: So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
There is no information letting us know how old Jacob was when Joseph was born. Thus it is unknown how long Jacob and Joseph existed together. This is as far as we can calculate time. So know we see Geneses covers about 2325 years since man walked the earth. I will continue this study in part 2.
