In 2001, my good friend Craig
bought a new black Mustang Cobra from one of our local SVT dealers. The
story is long - as it involves the Lemon Law - so I'll tell the Cliff's Notes
version! When he brought the car home he noticed the trunk lid was painted
VERY poorly. It basically looked as if the lid was 20 years old and
rusted, scraped down and sanded but with 100's of pieces of old paint still in
tact within the metal, and then painted over. It was so noticeable in the garage
that I am very surprised he didn't notice it at the dealer upon delivery.
Craig fought with the dealer for a couple weeks, and would not settle for a
re-paint as he is nearly as anal retentive as me - if not more!! Since he
had not titled the car yet, the dealer finally agreed to take it back and give
him a different one. He called the folks at SVT to find out what the
rarest color for the Cobra was. They informed it was Yellow, and not being
a fan of Yellow he opted for the 2nd rarest color - the latest color, Mineral
Grey.
I have always been a big fan of
dark, metallic reds - so that was going to be my color of choice when I bought a
new 'Stang. But once I saw Craig's Cobra, my choice was swayed.
Fortunately for me, Mineral Grey made a one year comeback in 2005 after being
discontinued in 2002. I kind of like the fact that my car's color has only
seen 3 model years to date!
