Pam & Mark

Their Story

(Married over 35 years!)

I transferred to Lincoln Christian College at the beginning of my sophomore year. Shortly after I arrived on campus in the fall, I was introduced to Mark and Paul. (I remember thinking that Mark was the cutest!) That was that until April. We had a goof off day on April 18th. We could wear silly clothes and do crazy things, like dump water on people. I have a picture of somebody dumping a bucket of water on me while I was talking to Mark. We hung around together that day.
A week or so later I remember looking out my room window and seeing Mark and another guy (Barry Brewer, whom I had known for a long time because he was also from Louisville) walking up to the lobby of my dorm. They saw me in the window and Barry motioned me to come to the lobby. When I got there they asked me if I would like to go out on a double date with Barry and another girl and Mark. I said sure. We went to Springfield, IL to see a dumb movie called, "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" It poured down rain the whole evening. After the movie, we went somewhere to eat and the food was not very good. Later that week we went out again (just the two of us) it was a better date. We went to a better movie, "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". A few weeks later, we went to the spring banquet together. (We dressed up in formals, but it was not a dance since we were not allowed to dance).
By May 18th, we were unofficially engaged. We did not see each other over the summer (I think, if I remember right!). We wrote each other tons of letters, at least one a day. I still have all of them. When we went back to school on August 18th Mark gave me my engagement ring. We were married the following June 18th, and the rest is history!
