Welcome

The River City Ramblers welcome you to Pike County Forest. Pike County was the first county formed after statehood; organized on Feb. 1, 1817. The county was named for General Zebulon M. Pike who discovered Pike's Peak. Acquisition of the land that makes up Pike State Forest began in the 1930's and continued through the 1950's. Pike State Forest was placed under the management of the Ferdinand State Forest in 1997.
This 2939 acre forest is located in southwestern Indiana, southeast of Winslow, Indiana. The topography varies from hilly uplands to the low bottomlands of the Patoka River. Primitive camping is available. There are 11 family campsites and 25 horseman sites. Also available, hunting, fishing, hiking trails and picnic areas.

Special Classifications: This event doesn't have any special classifications assigned.

Start Time: Any time between 8:00AM to 12:00PM noon local time.

Finish Time: You must complete the course by 4:00PM local time.

Weather: This event will be held rain or shine. Please dress appropriately

Trail Description: The trail varies from hilly uplands to the low bottom lands, in a forest setting. It is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. The trail is rated 3 on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the most difficult. The trail will be marked. Pets must be on a leash.

Location: Pike State Forest, 6583 East State Road 364 Winslow, IN

Registration & Start Cards: All participants, including infants and children must check in at the registration table and receive a start card. Your start card will be signed before the walk and returned to the finish table upon completion of the walk. This procedure allows us to keep track of all participants. The registration table is located at one of the shelters ( follow the Volksmarch signs to the  starting point.)

Event Awards: Each Department of Natural Resources (DNR) property in this series has a special 2 1/4 inch die cast medal with DNR property bar attached and to which additional DNR property bars may be added to form a chain. Completion of the trail and payment of the registration fee is required for the award.

This is a River Walk America Event.

Fees: Everyone is welcome to participate in this event for free, however, if you desire the award and credit the fee is $13.00. The property bar and credit is $8.00. The fee for IVV credit only is $3.00. You may walk free if no award or IVV credit is desired. There will be no refunds. You may Pre-register the fee for the award and credit is $11.00, for the bar and credit only is $6.00 Pre-registration can be mailed to the River City ramblers, no later than 10 days before the event.

Refreshments: Restrooms will be available at the Start/Finish point only and water will be available at the Start/Finish and checkpoints. You may wish to carry water with you.

Pike State Forest:

Also available, Hunting, fishing, hiking trails, bridle trails and picnic area.

Sponsors: THE RIVER CITY RAMBLERS Volkssport club is located in Evansville, IN. It is a volunteer non-profit organization. It is a member of the Indiana Volkssport Association and the American Volkssport Association.

Remember that this walk is on DNR property. All visitors are expected to observe the rules which are designed to fulfill the purpose for which state parks were established, namely to preserve a primitive landscape in its natural condition for the use and enjoyment of all people.

Directions: From the south take US41 North and turn East on I 64 to the Lynnville exit #29,

 SR 61. Go North 12 miles to Arthur continue another 2 miles to SR 364, turn right (East)

go 4 miles to the park entrance.

From the south on I 65 turn west on I 64 and go approximately 85 miles to the Lynnville exit# 29,

 SR 61. Go north 12 miles to Arthur continue another 2 miles to SR 364, turn right (east) go 4 mile

s to the park entrance.

From the north take SR57 south to Petersburgh, IN. From Petersburgh go south on SR 61

 through Winslow, IN continue another 2.3 miles to SR 364, turn left (east) for 4 miles to the park

 entrance.

From the north on I 65 turn west on I 64 and go approximately 85 miles to the Lynnville exit# 29,

 SR 61. Go north 12 miles to Arthur continue another 2 miles to SR 364, turn right (east) go

 4 miles to the park entrance.
