Goochland County, Va. Crouch Genealogy Credits

Back to: Index

This site is dedicated to my father who died in 2004 due to injuries suffered in a single vehicle traffic accident at the age of 83.

Most of the information I'm adding to the site is based upon:

Two Crouch family bibles circa 1850 from two of the sons of the Richard 3 Crouch (John 2, Richard 1) who migrated in 1816-17 to to that portion of Logan County which is now Todd County, Ky.

Research conducted in 1983 by genealogist Charles Hughes Hamlin (now deceased) who lived in Powhatan, Va.. and who sorted out the various John Crouch's of the Goochland clan.

Research conducted by Lineages, Inc. of Salt Lake City, Ut. as a birthday and Christmas present to my father in 1985. At the time Lineages, Inc. conducted this research I asked for and received from them hard copies of the references deeds, marriages, tax lists, wills, census lists, etc. as part of the research effort. (This research was used by the folks at Family Tree Maker to help build their database. My family's file can be found on the Brøderbund CD WFT Vol. 2, Ed. 1, Tree #1309 of their family collections.) If you peruse this family file be forewarned that the oldest son of James Jessup Crouch Sr.'s name was James Jessup Crouch, Jr.; not James Joseph Crouch as listed in the family file. This is an error on the part of Broderbund and to my knowledge to date they have not corrected the mistake.

My father's trip to the public library in Harrisonville, Mo. on September 9th, 2001 where he photo copied Crouch research information from Mrs. L.M. Crouch, Jr. (deceased 1990). He and my mom got stranded there until September 13th after September 11th and ended up driving back to Kentucky in a rental car.

Information from Glen Crouch (deceased April 2000) of Omaha, Nebraska, a noted Crouch Researcher who sent me a packet of Crouch information on collateral Crouch descendants which allowed me to make contact with Pamela Parish in Jackson Tn. my fifth cousin once removed who's also been researching her Crouch line back to Goochland.

Research in 1989 by Irene M. Griffey, a Clarksville, Tn. Certified Genealogist who found the information on Richard 1 Crouch who during her research found that she too was a Richard Crouch descendant via Sarah 3 Crouch (John 2, Richard 1) who married Stephen Woodson. Stephen Woodson purchased land in Montgomery County, TN. for his two daughters Elizabeth Mattox Woodson Bailey, wife of Jesse Bailey, and Susanna Woodson Bridgewater, wife of Richard Bridgewater. Richard Bridgewater & Susanna Woodson married in Goochland County, Virginia in 1815.

And information on the Crouch Family Heritage Association Family Tree Patriot.net web site much of which appears to be based upon Mrs. L.M. Crouch Jr's research.

If you are a descendant of the Goochland County, Virginia Crouch's, have information different, or in addition to what's shown above please feel free to contact Joe Crouch who maintains this site.
