Silver Wedding
Pepsin, MO., Jan 18, 1903The ponderous wheel of time having marked quarter of a century since the wedding of Samuel and Susan Crouch, relatives and friends accorded them a pleasant surprise by celebrating the 25th anniversary of their wedding at the home of the 18th inst. Rev. Monroe Smith of Patoka, Ill., brother of Mrs. Crouch, in a well chosen, short address presented them a silver set of knives and forks gotten by relatives.
A sumptuous dinner was spread and all partook of a hearty repast. Music was an important feature of the celebration, as Miron Smith of Vernon, Illinois, has a fine tenor voice which he used to the entertainment of all on this occasion. After dinner was served the photographer was there and a family group of the Smith family taken. Also a picture of four generations represented by William Smith and wife, Mrs. Crouch, Nannie McDaniels and baby. The celebration was a very enjoyable occasion and while 25 years have tinged their hair a little gray, we wish the 25 years more of wedded life and a celebration of their golden wedding.

In 1873, she came with her parents to Newton county and settled near Diamond where they lived until the time of their death. She was married to Samuel Crouch in 1878. To this union were born seven children, five of whom died in infancy. Her husband preceded her to the Great Beyond June 18 1925. At the age of twenty-four years she united with the Presbyterian church at the old Liberty school house near Diamond.
Mrs. Crouch leaves to morn her passing, two daughters, Mrs. Nannie McDaniels of Granby, Mrs. Velia Thomas of Nesho; four brothers, F. M. Smith of Vernon, Ill., J. M. Smith of Patoka, Ill., G. W. She also leaves nine grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
The Crouch home has been a center of social gatherings and family reunions for many years and all who have been entertained there will remember the warm hospitality and the true Christian character of the home. Mrs. Crouch was a woman of high ideals, and devoted to whatever task she might undertake. May her family look up through the rift in the cloud and be comforted by the thought that though the family circle is breaking and narrowing her on the shores of time, they live and pray that it is broadening in eternity in the presence of the Savior and some day will be unbroken circle in the Presence Divine. She is done with the toils and suffering on earth.
The funeral services were conducted at the Greenwood church by Rev. S. F. Stevens of Neosho and burial was in the Crouch cemetery. The active pall-bearers were nieces of Mrs. Crouch and were as follows; Mrs. Ray Foster, Mrs. Javis Bradley, Mrs. Mart Boehning, Mrs Virgil Crouch, Mrs. Lisle Crouch, Mrs. Cleve Smith and Mrs. J. M.
