Crouch Reunion
Forty-five of the best citizens assembled at the residence of Sam Crouch on the 30th of July, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Halk, who are here from Arkansas on a visit. All enjoyed a grand old reunion. We had with us three boys of '61, each of whose hair is silvered with the ripe old age of threescore years and ten; namely, Uncle Jasper Smith, uncle Billie Smith, and Uncle Billie Crouch. Those present were as follows: William Smith and wife, William Crouch and wife, R. E. Halk and family of Arkansas, Jasper Smith and daughter, Sarah Barker and son of Berwick, Ed Crouch and family, John Crouch and family, Henry Crouch,, H. A. McDaniel and wife, Charley Camerer and family, Emma Renfro of Diamond, Florence Smith, William McDaniel and family.
All enjoyed a sumptuous dinner and were entertained by music both vocal and instrumental, and by Ed Crouch on his phonograph. Some special pieces that the phonograph played caused the minds of the three war veterans to reflect back to war days of '61. Although it was gloomy and rainy without, it was joyous and merry within; but of course it must come to a close, so late in the evening with a sad thought that we might not all enjoy such another reunion. We all departed wishing that the Crouch family might live to enjoy many more happy days. One Present. Aug 3, 1905 Times
Their children were:
1. Minnie S. Crouch 62. William T. Crouch 6
3. John Samuel Crouch 6 born October 17, 1868; died March 9, 1948; married Nancy Hannah Mitchell born May 27, 1868 & died April 10, 1917. She was the daughter of Thomas Jasper Mitchell born November 8, 1840 in Tennessee and Mary Caroline Owens born May 5, 1850 in Lawrence Co., Missouri [1]
[1] One source on the Newton County, Missouri Rootsweb.com 'GenWeb' archives states that John Samuel Crouch had seven children.

WEBMASTER OBSERVATION:
In this 1870 Census the above William Crouch, husband of Sallie, is living adjacent to another William Crouch also born in Tennessee. Often times in the census records this indicates a close relative (son, father, uncle, etc..). This William Crouch who married Sallie is 31 years old in 1870, so he was born circa 1838/39. William Crouch, the son of Milner Francis Crouch was 10 in the 1850 census, and 21 years old in the 1860 Newton County Census. So by the 1870 Newton County Census he'd have been 31 which agrees with the census age progressions. The puzzling piece is the cemetary records indicate a birth date for the husband of Sallie of December 23, 1828. [4] This discrepency may be due to a transcription error in recording the headstone's birth / death dates. Another puzzle is that William was recorded with his father Milner Francis Crouch in the 1860 Newton County, Mo. census, but without his wife or children (children would have been 5 and 3 years of age). The relation of the other William Crouch in the census record above is left unresolved.

Headstone for William Crouch Pvt. 6 Mo. Cav. C.S.A. clearly shows birth date of December 25, 1838 and death on Jan. 21, 1906. so there is a transcription error in published cemetery records.
