[4] Of particular note is a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Davis vs Crouch, 94 U.S. 514 - October Term, 1876. which involves the settlement of the estate of Ann Crouch (nee Davis) brother's estate, one Hector Davis, in which he divides his estate among his children and leaves the balance of his estate after the portions to his children to his sister Ann Crouch, and her children. The suit was brought by a servant women in the home of Hector Davis who was given her freedom along with her children upon his death, and had gone to Philidephia to live during the course of the Civil War. The estate of Hector Davis appears to have been settled without any of it having gone to the servant woman Ann Davis, which was against the terms of Hector's will.
[5] William Crouch enlisted as a Corporal in the Virginia Confederate army on 6th June 1861 at the age of 19 in Goochland County, Virginia. Died 19 May 1924 in Goochland County, VA.
