Richard H. Crouch 4 (William 3, John 2, Richard 1) was born November 24, 1801. [5] He 1st married Elizabeth Duke, daughter of James Duke of Sumner Co., TN. and 2nd married Nancy H. Abernathy on November 30, 1837 in Shelby County, Tn.. Death before 1860 in Shelby County, Tennessee.
Children of Richard Crouch and Elizabeth Duke are:
1. George W. Crouch 5, born 1830. [7] (The transcribed 1860 Shelby TN Census record has Richard H. Crouch's son George with a middle initial of 'M' which I believe is a transcription error. In looking at the actual census record, the "W" for George W. Crouch, James W. Crouch and the "W" for Emily Woodson on line 7 are all made the same. Line 32 has a Mary E. Robbins. The "M" in Mary begins by sweeping up left to right from the baseline to the top of the M, while George's middle initial starts at the base of the 'W' and forms a loop by going right to left to the top of the W. )
The April 25, 1865 City of Memphis Census has G.W. Crouch living at 59 Madison with occupation as a Clerk.[12]2. William A. Crouch 5, born 1832; married Margaret J. Hall on October 18, 1854, Raleigh, Shelby County, Tn.; she was born 1836, Tn..
3. James Wm. Crouch 5 born 1836, Shelby County, Tn.; died November 6, 1904, Shelby County, Tn.; married Emma [10] "Mittie" Wilkerson, January 27, 1873, Shelby County, Tn..
Portion of the Sumner County, TN. will of James Duke that shows his daughter Elizabeth Duke married Richard H. Crouch. - (document provided by Sandy Duke)
Children of Richard Crouch and Nancy H. Abernathy are:
4. Susan A. Crouch 5 born 1840, Shelby County, Tn..[5]
5. Richard A. Crouch 5 born 1839, Shelby County, Tn.. [8]
6. Sarah B. Crouch 5 born 1846, Shelby County, Tn.; married E.J. WALLACE.

[5] Paradise Cemetery located on Appling Road, South of I40 and just before reaching Cordova Road in Shelby County, TN ( between the Appling Lake Apartments & Cordova Forest Subdivision, can be seen from the street, and is surrounded by an iron and brick fence with several big trees ) has headstones for:
Susan A. Crouch, daughter of R.H. & N.H. Crouch, born August 14, 1838, died January 8, 1865Richard H. Crouch, born ? 21, 1810, died September 3, 1854. fts RHC - Headstone has what appears to be a Masonic Symbol)
If the Susan A. Crouch and Richard H. Crouch above are the same as listed on this page, then additional documentation / research is needed, as the birth year for Susan A. Crouch disagrees with two seperate census records. And the birth date and year for Richard H. Crouch also disagrees with the census birth year based upon age at time of census. Did the tombstone carver transpose 1801 to 1810? The puzzling piece is that the intials for R.H. & N.H. Crouch agree with the subjects on this page.
