John E. Crouch 4 (John 3, John 2, Richard 1) was born c1803, VA; died by 1 Sept 1852, San Augustine Co., TX[1]; married Elizabeth D. Midgett, 1 Nov 1842, Williamson Co., TN. This family was still in Williamson Co. for the 1850 census[2], so apparently migrated to TX between 1850-1852. Elizabeth and children have not been found in any records in TX or TN after the estate administration for John in 1852. John served as a captain in 1839 in the Creek and Seminole Campaign.
Children of John E. and Elizabeth D. Midgett:
1. Susan W. Crouch 5, born c1844, TN; died after 1 Sept 1852.2. Kizier D. Crouch 5 (probably should be "Keziah"), born c1846, TN; died after 1 Sept 1852.
3. William H. Crouch 5, born c1848, TN; died after 1870, when he was lving with his Uncle Charles W. Crouch in Kaufman Co., TX.
4. Child Crouch 5, born c1850, probably TN; died after 1 Sept 1852.[3]

"Crouch, Charles W. shown as administrator to estate of John E. Crouch, 2 November 1852 Nacogdoches County."
[5] Supreme Court of the State of Texas - Crouch v. The State
John E. Crouch, was indicted at the Fall Term, A.D. 1853, of the District Court for San Augustine county, for an assault with intent to kill, upon one William Pucket.. On the 17th day of October, 1855, Crouch entered into recognizance, with John G. Love, James A. Chaffin and Calloway, Deen, Sr., as sureties, in the sum of one thousand dollars, conditioned that the said John Crouch should personally make his appearance at the next regular term of the District Court, then and there to answer, &c., and should remain there from day to day and from term to term of said court until he shall be discharged therefrom by said court. On the 13th day of November, 1857, the said John Crouch failing to appear, this recognizance was forfeited, and writs of scire facias ordered to issue to Crouch and his sureties. It appears from the judgement nisi and from scire facias, that when the district attorney moved the court to forfeit the recognizance, the surieties of Crouch opposed the motion on the ground that the recognizance had been entered into under an indictment which was not then in existence, and that the indictment under which the State was then seeking to hold them liable was an indictment found at the Spring Term, 1857, of the court, ad substituted for the old indictment under which the recognizance was ..... (net result was John Crouch and sureties lost their appeal).
