Walk to Rivendell

Tour by Ranger Jewel

74-79 Miles

We've followed Frodo's path to the edge of the Shire! He and his companions spent the night of September 25 at Crickhollow. They had a good hot bath and a good hot supper (their second, since they'd already had supper with Farmer Maggot and his family!)

Frodo had planned to spend some time in Crickhollow, resting and waiting for Gandalf, but his brush with the Riders had frightened him so he decided to set off again early the next morning. Merry joined Sam, Frodo and Pippin as they left the Shire on September 26.

We'll follow them as well, though they had ponies at this point! We pass through the High Hay-the huge old hedge that guards the eastern border of the Shire. Merry had a key for the gate in the Hay. Fortunately, we've been trusted with one as well and we go through the gate to the edge of the Old Forest.

By the end of this part of our trek, we're deep in the Old Forest. Can you hear the trees whispering about us?
