Walk to Rivendell

Tour by Ranger Jewel

65-69 Miles

At the beginning of the part of our journey, we'll be crossing fields in the part of the Shire known as the Marish. As we progress, we begin to cross a huge turnip field. The field is surrounded by neat hedges and dikes. Since this is Pippin's home countryside, he is the first to recognize the place.

"'I know these fields and this gate!' he said. "We are on old Farmer Maggot's land. That must be his farm away there in the trees.'"

Hopefully Farmer Maggot will give us as warm a welcome as he gave the hobbits! Be careful you don't steal any mushrooms along the way!

The hobbits journeyed from Farmer Maggot's farm to the Ferry in Farmer Maggot's wagon. We'll have to make the trip on foot. We get to the Ferry at about the 70 mile mark. Do you suppose Merry will be waiting at the Ferry for us?
