The hobbits and Strider only made 12 miles of progress on September 30 due to their late start from Bree and their winding route through the hilly woodlands of Chetwood. They did enjoy this part of their journey, though. "The sun was shining, clear but not too hot. The woods in the valley were still leafy and full of colour, and seemed peaceful and wholesome."

They camped with Strider in Chetwood on the night of September 30. We'll keep hiking!
