Workshops

Cast-on Workshop
Saturday, 5/6, 2:00-5:00 p.m.
Instructor: Judith Smith-Ille
Fee: $30

Get off to the right start by starting with the best cast on technique for your knitting project. Join us and learn a variety of cast-on techniques to meet all of your knitting needs. From the German long tail, German twisted, continental, cable, knitted to the ribbed cast-on. We end the session with the treasured Channel Island cast-on used in Aran and Gansey knitting for the wonderful picot or bumped edge for collars, sleeves, sock tops and edgings. Don't let being left handed bother you, so is the instructor (she can teach both).

Bring worsted weight yarn and size 7, 8, or 9 needles, circular or straight. You will also need a size 3 or 4 needle. Hint: If you have some straight needles, they are easier to use when learning new cast-on techniques since they give you more needle to see the results of the technique you have used. Instructional sheet with cast-ons provided along with notes, solving problems and uses for cast-ons. You will be an expert in no time and realize a good beginning brings wonderful finished items!

Beginner's Intensive Session
Learn to knit in an afternoon!

By the end of the class you will have the confidence to start the first knitting project of your choice. Printed instructions will be provided. Materials needed are worsted weight yarn and a pair of straight or circular needles size 7 or 8. It is easier for beginners to learn on straight needles. You may purchase the items in the shop prior to the start of class. Left handers welcome.
