January Meeting minutes

first meeting of 2008: Those in attendance included, Steven massa, Marilyn Martin, Rebecca Peters, Buffy Rogers, Nancy Dandrow, Sydney Zentall, Becky Chapman, Deb Remsburg, Bob Lempke, Bev Conn and Darlene.
Susie Coles who passed away late last year will be honored by naming a special award in her honor, given at the Grand WAAbash, the WAA members that are at the opening reception will vote on which artist in the show it will be given to.
Treasure report is $104.36 as of the meeting. Please pay your dues- $25.
There was much discussion on the plan for 2008 and meeting schedule. it was determined to keep meetings every month with the intention of having a program each month. The meetings for the year are:

Frankfort Library Show
this is an open show and members are allowed 1-3 pieces. Drop off for the show is 11-2pm on Saturday 2/2/08 at TAF. we will transport the pieces all at once on Sunday 2/3/08 to be hung, hanging will be 1-5pm at the library on Sunday.
If you don't wish for WAA to transport your art you will need to bring the art to frankfort on Sunday by 1pm for Bob to include in the show. If you plan to use WAA to transport your pictures there will be a $5 transportation fee. All pieces should be well wrapped for transport. Pick up of work will be 3/22 from 10-12 at the library and 2-4 at TAF. The opening reception will be 2/9 at 2pm. You should note that the artist is responsible for the art, WAA and the library do not take responsibility.
Buffy Rogers has agreed to do labels, we need all labels done for hanging on Sunday, which means we need all labels when the work is dropped off. You can send Buffy an email that includes: Name, Title, Medium, and Price or NFS. Her email is mbuffyrogers@yahoo.com.

Artists Showing Their Works in Frankfort

Several artists spent a few hours Sunday afternoon hanging and placing works of art at Frankfort Community Public Library. Their delicate perfection will be showcased for six weeks, Saturday through March 21, in the Anna and Harlan Hubbard Gallery on the library's second floor. The works were created by artists with the Wabash Artist Alliance, which was created nearly 20 years ago. Its goals include promoting the arts and members' artistic endeavors and being an advocate for arts in the community. The group exhibition will include two- and three-dimensional work in a variety of mediums. Sculptures and glass pieces are just a couple examples of what will be available. "It's a gathering of artists of various mediums," said Flo Caddell, arts director for the library. "They include more than just paintings."
Friends of the Frankfort Library are sponsoring the exhibit. The group last showed at the library in 1998, Caddell said. The Alliance contacted the library last spring about a return.,,"It's been quite awhile since they've been here," Caddell said. "It's a good opportunity to see artwork from Indiana artists." Dozens of works are up for sale, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Friends. Last year had 17 exhibitions in the Hubbard gallery and on the library's lower level. Caddell said the exhibits change about every six weeks. "We have something new coming in all the time," she said. "I always encourage arts groups to exhibit this time of year."
The gallery is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, evenings and weekends by appointment. An opening reception will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
February Meeting....
1. Report by Sydney Zentall from the meeting with TAF Member Organizations and Member Services Co., Jan 9, 2008, to include a presentation by Tetia Lee -- TAF’s newly appointed Executive Director.
a. Tetia Lee has 11 years of experience with art organizations/grant writing and is an active artist with 3 galleries representing her work in LA, Chicago, & NY. She has an interesting portfolio and perhaps we may want to invite her to speak to us about this work and her role with WAA.
b. Possible roles for TAF: A master calendar with links to grants and other organizations, such as Indianaarts.org, which has a calendar. TAF currently has a calendar (Events Calendar) that Abbey tries to keep current by visiting each organization’s website to find out dates. All press releases should go to Abbey.
