WVWS May 15th Meeting
I. Executive Meeting- Discussion took place about TAF's gallery rules and exhibiting. Shelley was concerned that not all pictures were left hanging during the show. There will be guidelines in our next prospectus to help all of us know TAF's gallery rules. (You are not allowed to remove pictures during the exhibit. The organization can be fined and penalized for this).

II. Jean Jackson gave an absolutely wonderful demonstration on plein air values. There are nine values and Jean printed out presentation sheets for us to look from. 50% of the drawing should be midtones and the remainder divided unequally. All in attendance filled in values on a pre-printed sheet. Jean did a wonderful job presenting plein air atmospheric conditions. Thanks to Jean for a very informative demonstration. There will be a paint out June 23rd from 8 to 3 at Celery Bog. Artists from the Indiana Plein Air Association will be there.

SUCCESS
- To laugh often and much.
- To win the respect of intelligent people and the
affection of children.
- To earn the appreciation of honest critics and
endure the betrayal of false friends.
- To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others,
to leave the world a bit better, whether by a
healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed
social condition.
- To know one life has breathed easier because
you have lived.
- This is to have succeeded-

The 8th Annual WVWS Juried Show- What a breathtaking beautiful show. Many praises to Cheryl Kaldahl and Rose Baker. Rose lined up all of the sponsors and what great prizes and ribbons were given out. Thank you Rose for your diplomacy.
The exhibits chairwoman, Cheryl, not only organized and lined up entertainment, she worked until midnight hanging the exhibit. This was Cheryl’s first time as exhibit chair and her first juried show. Much must be said for those who dive in and do their “art part.”

Thank you Cheryl and Rose!
Three artists sold paintings at the show: Erma Flora, Jenny Hulan and LaDonna Vohar- Congrats!
The "Paint-Out at the Wabash" sponsored by the Art Museum will be October 13th, but it needs volunteers now. Email or call Kathryn Clark to volunteer to be on the committee.

Paint-Out on the Wabash

In conjunction with the Plein Aire Painting exhibition at the art museum that opens Sept. 7th, the museum is hosting a paint-out Oct 13th which is called "Paint-Out at the Wabash". It will be centered at the pedestrian bridge between Lafayette and West Lafayette between Tapawingo Park and Riehle Plaza. Anyone and everyone is invited to paint or draw out side that day at that location or anywhere they want. The art museum will also host a SALE that day of paintings by artists that register at the museum in the morning, who are painting outside that day, and who provide framed paintings and display easels for their art work. The museum will take a 30% commission. At 5pm, there will be a reception at the museum for everyone and a place for artists to display the paintings they painted that day on their easels. The public will be invited to wander and watch the artists paint during the day.

I'm establishing a committee now for this event and need volunteers. If WVWS members want to paint that day but would like to help, there is a lot to do before the event with publicity and preparations. On the Paint-Out day of Oct 13th, we'll need people to be at the museum selling art work and at a Hospitality table at the train station with bottles of water, lunches, information, etc.

<<<ONLINE ART SCAMS>>>
I’m coming to you with some information about a scam that targets artists so please be on the lookout. You may have already been contacted by such people but please beware.......
I was approached online by a woman named EMILY KERBOW who wanted to buy $400 dollars worth of artwork from me. While I was excited about such a deal, I was a little suspicious since I didn’t know where she came from and how she was willing to give $400 dollars so easily. So…she says she will send the check but here’s the problem. Her “husband” or “husband’s associate” made out the check for too much because there was some confusion. Her story is that she and her husband are moving to South Africa and that between the moving and all, the confusion arises. She’s really convincing, too, because she will tell you how excited she is about receiving your work and how she’shaving a baby and her doctors put her on bedrest. She’ll tell you anything to humanize her story and seem as real as possible. What made this so believable was that this exchanging of emails went on for 6 months.
Of course, when I received the check it was not $400 dollars but $3,500.00 dollars which she asked me to ship back the difference of $3,100 toher shipping company. They only problem is that the shipping company doesn’t exist. But here’s the sinker–the shipping company will ask you toWIRE IT to them. That’s when you deposit your check (which is a cashier’s check from the River Valley State Bank!!!!), and the check will clear but later on thebank will figure out that it’s a fake and guess who will be responsible for replacing those funds? Meanwhile, themoney you sent tothe shipping company i.e.. Emily Kerbowis legit while you’re stuck dealing withfraud and debt.
The shipping company was insistent that it be sent Western Union the same day that I got suspicious and started doing some checking, 1st with the bank who said it was NOT a valid check, 2nd Google search Emily Kerbow and now I believe I will frame this check just to remind me that if it sound like a really great web site sale, Check it out first.
