1. It is recommended that Letters of Commendation be given to the men indicated for participation in the actions described below.

2. During the period from 10 November 1942 until 15 August 1943, the Photographic PB4Y-1 airplanes of this squadron have operated continuously in the Solomon Islands on photographic missions over enemy territory. During this period the above listed men have been members of the combat crews for the planes of this squadron. Each man has more than 200 combat hours on photographic or reconnaissance missions. Acting in the various capacities as navigators, aerial gunners, flight engineers, radiomen, and photographers, these men have been of inestimable value and assistance to the success of this squadron and in the pursuance of the war against Japan. Their work in the face of enemy opposition was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

3. The following is a suggested citation for the above listed men:

CITATION

"For meritorious conduct in frequent aerial flights over enemy territory, during the period from 10 November 1942 until 15 August 1943, while serving as members of combat crews of Marine Photographic Squadron One Fifty-four. Having been subjected to heavy anti aircraft fire many times, and in contact with enemy aerial opposition, these men conducted themselves with a high degree of skill and efficiency, resulting in the successful completion of the photographic missions of this squadron. Their performance of duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."
