Locomotives
Ex-United States Air Force units 4010 and 4044 are Baldwin-Whitcomb units built in 1953 and 1954. In the mid-1980s both units were repowered with Caterpillar D-3508 engines and EMD control stands. The units are each rated at 500 hp. These units were used in service in Europe and are designed for service on either standard of broad gauge railways. Click on the photo for an enlarged view.
ex-Monon #32 is a BL-2 locomotive built by EMC / EMD in 1947 and 1948. The unit develops 1500 hp, is one of only 59 branch line locomotives built, is now one of only 7 known to exist, and one of only three known to be in regular service.
The Fairbanks-Morse #1846 is an ex-United States Army unit. It is a H-12-44 model generating 1200 hp from an opposed piston engine. This unit was built in 1953.
#11 is a narrow gauge steam 0-4-0 built in 1913 by Vulcan Manufacturing. It is for display purposes only.
L&N #152 is a 4-6-2 Pacific type Alco locomotive built in 1905 by Rogers Locomotive Works. #152 is the official steam locomotive of the Commonwealth of Kentucky as designated by an act of the Kentucky Legislature. Units 76 & 77 are GE built center cab switch locomotives powered by twin 380 hp diesel engines. They were built in 1948 and 1950, respectively, and used by the US Navy.
L&N E-6A #770 was built by EMC in 1939 and was one of the first diesel-electric units purchased by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. This unit came to Kentucky Railway Museum without most of its internal parts and is for display only. The unit was equipped with 2 1250 hp v-12 diesel engines.
C&O 2716 is a 2-8-4 Kanawa class locomotive built by Alco for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad in 1943.
US Navy 2112 is a military version of an RS-5 often referred to as an MRS-1 or RSD-5. It was built in 1953 and leased by the Winchester & Western for several years before being sold to Roberts Bros. Coal Company of Western Kentucky. It is a 1600 hp unit with 6 powered axles.
#2546 was originally built in 1948 as an F-7 by EMD and then rebuilt and converted by Santa Fe Railroad in 1973 and given the model designation CF-7. It is a diesel-electric locomotive powered by a single 16 cylinder engine developing 1500 hp. It is the only known CF-7 in the original Santa Fe paint scheme.
L&N 285 was originally numbered 2152 and is a 0-8-0 steam switch locomotive. It was later owned by Republic Steel Corporation. It is not operable.
US Army 7374 was built by Alco in 1941 as an S-1 660 hp switch locomotive. It is currently out of service.
