Railway Cars
Kentucky Railway Museum owns over eighty (80) pieces of rolling stock, including flat cars, refrigerated (reefer) units, box cars, Railway Post Office (RPO) cars, gondolas, and other assorted pieces in addition to passenger cars and cabooses. Below are listed some of the examples in the roster.
KRM 821 is a 74 seat coach which was built by the American Car & Foundry in 1925 for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad. It later became Seaboard Coast Line 821 and was sold to the Clinchfield Railroad and re-numbered CRR 103. It was donated to the Museum by the Clinchfield Railroad in 1979.
SP 2359 is a 48 seat coach built in 1954 by Pullman Standard for the Southern Pacific Railroad. It later became part of the Amtrak fleet and was purchased by the Museum in 1987. The coach had new central heating and air-conditioning installed by KY Railway Museum volunteers in 1993.
TC 8038 is a 48 seat dining car built by Budd in 1948. It was originally part of the ATSF fleet and was later assigned to Amtrak service. It was purchased by Kentucky Railway Museum in 2000. The diner is available for charter.
L&N 1603 was built in 1922 by the American Car Foundry and is a 32 seat combine (combination passenger and baggage) coach. It was acquired in 1979 from the Louisville & Nashville Railroad and renovated in 1992.
L&N 2554 is an ex-Clinchfield car, built in 1929 and donated to Kentucky Railway Museum by the Clinchfield Railroad in 1979. This coach was renovated by Museum volunteers in 1995 and used in the television documentary "The Beauty Of The Southland."
L&N 2572 is a sister coach to L&N 2554. It was built in 1930 and donated to the Museum in 1979 by the Clinchfield Railroad. It was restored in 1998.
Coach 884 was originally built for the Missouri, Kansas, & Texas (KATY) railroad in 1922 and was numbered 884. It was sold to the Hartwell (GA) Railroad and became number 911. It was then used by the New Georgia Railroad where it was number 1101 and was purchased by Kentucky Railway Museum in 1994. It is a 42 seat coach with central heat and air.
