| May 11, 2003 SO WHO ARE THE TWO NEW PRIESTS COMING TO LIVE AT ST. PATRICK'S? (That's Right . . .. TWO!) Our new pastor will be Father Joseph P. Donton. Father Donton was born in Florissant, Missouri on September II,1965. He was ordained on May 26, 1991. His first assignment was as an Assistant at Holy Family Church at Lincoln, IL and as a Chaplain at the Lincoln Correctional Center. In 1992 hemoved to St. Thomas Church in Peoria Heights. In 1994, (Arch) Bishop Myers named him his Administrative Assistant and a Vice-Chancellor of the Diocese of Peoria. For three years he traveled with the Archbishop all over the Diocese for Confir-mations and various celebrations. It was while he was carrying out these duties that he first came to St. Patrick's for Confirma-tions and liked what he saw. In 1997 Fr. Donton was named Pastor/Rector of St. Mary's Cathedral and Director of Voca-tions. Fr. Donton is VERY much involved in the Diocesan Em-maus Days Program. He was also named Vicar of the Peoria SW Vicariate in 2001 (Peoria has two Vicariates). The SECOND priest coming to live at St. Patrick's is Father Edward J.P. Roberts. Father Roberts was born in Latrobe,Pennsylvania on December 4, 1966. He was ordained a Priest on May 25, 1996. His first assignment was as Assistant at St.Mary's Parish at Pontiac, IL. In 1998, he became Director of the office of Evangelization where he did much of the planning for the Diocese's celebration of the New Millennium. He also did work at our Marriage Tribunal. In 2000 he was assigned to studies at the Catholic University at Washington, DC. On his return he continued his work at the Marriage Tribunal and was named Pastor of St. Joseph's Church at Brimfield and St. James at Williarnsfield. In 2002 he was assigned to special studies in Church (Cannon) Law and just this week obtained his Degree (Licentiate) in Canon Law. He will reside with Fr. Donton here in Washington, continue his work at the Marriage Tribunal and will also be Pastor of St. Luke's in Eureka. You WILL like them both. That's an ORDER! God Bless.-Father Swaner |
