Welcome to my Photography and Galleries Page.

I shoot a Nikon D70 camera with the lenses shown below.  I chose Nikon because of the high quality of the Nikon lenses and Nikon’s creative lighting system.  Sure, the D70 has been surpassed by the D80 and D200, but I’d rather spend money on new lenses than replacing the camera body.  Read Why Your Camera Does Not Matter by Ken Rockwell if you don’t understand why.

Explanation of the Nikon lens nomenclature system at Wikipedia or Thom Hogan.

12-24mm f/4G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor

Only works on digital camera bodies.  Superb autofocus and wide-angle functionality.  Fits standard 77mm filters.

Good review for this lens here.

24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor

Great lens.  Most of my pictures are from this lens.  VR is awesome.  I love it.

Also works on 35mm camera bodies.  72mm filter.

Good review for this lens here.

70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor

Superb optics, excellent bokeh, fast constant f/2.8 aperture

Works on 35mm camera bodies.  77mm filter.  300mm equivalent when used with a digital camera body.

Good review for this lens here and here.

50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor (Prime)

Super fast f/1.8 aperture.  Great for portraits, especially on a digital camera body (75mm equivalent).

Some details here and a review here.

SB-800 Speedlight

I originally bought the SB-800 to be a Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS) controller, but after I found the SU-800 (below), it’s a moot point.  I probably could have saved some money and bought the SB-600 units instead.

SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander

This thing is great.  It’s almost always on the hotshoe during any shoot that requires flash lighting.  It controls my two SB-800 units (above) and two SU-R200 units (below).

R1C1 Wireless Close-Up Speedlight System

This kit came with the SU-800 controller and two SB-R200 remote speedlights.  This is far more functional than just a close-up system, because the SU-800 commander can control my SB-800s along with the SB-R200s.  The smaller flashes can be used for auxiliary fill flashes for extra effects or shadowing during portrait sessions.

Impact Digital Flash Umbrella Mount Kit

Includes two stands, umbrellas, and mounts for Speedlights.  The SU-800 commander on my D70 controls the umbrella-mounted SB-800s as group A, and the SB-R200s are sometimes used for additional fill or effects (using colored gel filters) as groups B and C.
