Mr. Puntila and His Man Matti
by Bertolt Brecht
directed by Tony Macaluso
In conjunction with Brecht's 100th birthday the Station Theater is
presenting the German playwright's political comedy about a monsterous Finnish landowner
with a split-personality.
The play centers on the havoc created by Puntila, a stumbling force of
nature who seeks to spread his wealth, his affection and his body whenever he is drunk,
and grows horrified at his own generousity when sober. Inspired in part by a segment from
Chaplin's film City Lights, Puntila demonstrates the great difficulty of grasping
social reality.
