Performance dates from June 2 though June 18

Auditions are cold reads from the script and no preparation is necessary. Open roles consist of the following:

1 woman to play between the ages of 19-25
1 man to play between mid 30's to early 40's

If you would like to read for one of these roles, please attend the open audition session on Saturday, January 29 between 1-5pm at the Station Theatre, 223 N. Broadway, Urbana, IL

Auditions for “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum” 

Directed by Michael O. Cornell 


Auditions will be held at the Busey Center (208 W Main St – Urbana):

Saturday, January 29th Noon – 5pm

Sunday, January 30th Noon – 4pm


Callbacks will be Sunday from 6-9pm. Cast list will be posted by Monday, January 31st at 6:00pm. 


Auditionees should prepare a song, 32 bars, any style, any artist, can be from the show or not. Also prepare a funny story or joke. At the audition you will be asked to read short excerpts from the script and do some simple choreographed movement. 

The first read through of the script will be Tuesday, February 1st at 6:30 pm. The first rehearsal will be Monday, February 21st. Rehearsals will run Monday-Thursday from 6:30-9:30 until the U of I Spring Break. After Spring Break, the rehearsals will run Monday-Friday, 6:30 – 10:00.

Tech week begins April 10th with four performances, April 14th-17th at the historic Virginia Theatre.

The cast for this show will include 

Lead roles, age 16 & up (these are not all gender specific – anyone can audition) 

4-6 Proteans, age 16-20 (these are versatile performers (clown like) who fill a large variety of rolls throughout the show) 

7 children, ages 5-15 

A chorus, age 16 & up with special talents (such as juggling, mime, impersonators, dance skills, comedic magic)
