Remembrance

Stinging human eyes
With lights that glare,
Too white.
Reek too purified,
Queasy.
Air of ice surrounds,
Small body held
Down by all.
Arms pined to
Cold metal
Coarse against
Baby flesh.
Legs ineffective
To jolt.
Head held firm
As not to see
Back exposed, a brush of
Freezing essence wet
Spread
Covering her spine.
Frighten
Of the unknown,
Too young, to fathom.
Stabbed in flesh sluggishly,
Slithers up her spine.
Screams resonated
From toddler’s lungs
World ceases,
In hell, tears thrash.
No movement,
Echoes of pain
A struggle that could,
Not be won.
