Juanita
Blakey Vasser, 61, of Stone Mountain, GA, departed this
life on Friday, December 5, 2003. She was born January
15, 1942, in Louisville to the late Grandison and
Lorraine I. Blakey. She had lived in Atlanta, GA, and
Stone Mountain since 1975. She attended elementary and
secondary schools in the old Louisville Independent
School District, graduating from Shawnee High School in
1960. She earned a bachelor of science degree from
Knoxville (TN) College in 1964 and a master of science
degree in education from Indiana University Southeast in
1969. Ms. Vasser taught in the Louisville public schools
at Omer Carmichael Elementary School, Parkland Junior
High (now Lyman T. Johnson Middle School) and duPont
Manual Senior High School. She also taught in the
Department of Defense Overseas Depended Schools in
Darmestadt, West Germany from 1973 to 1975 and was an
administrator in the University of Louisville's Upward
Bound Program in 1975. More recently, Ms. Vasser was in
management and sales with IBM in Louisville and Atlanta
and served as the associate director for community
affairs at WCLK-FM radio at Clark Atlanta University. She
grew up in Smoketown and was raised in Hope Presbyterian
Church, now Grace-Hope Presbyterian Church, and in the
Presbyterian community centers. At the time of her death,
she was a member of Cascade United Methodist Church in
Atlanta. She is survived by her brother, William A.
"Buddy" Blakey, and numerous friends in
