Growing up and living my entire life in Akron, I've always believed that Cleveland was the musically coolest place on earth. And for the longest time, that was true. But for the past five or six years, Cleveland has sucked completely. No local scene exists anymore, and unless you're a cover band, American Idol wannabe, or a mindless death metal miscreant, there are practically no venues to play good, well-crafted music (Power Pop, Rock, call it what you will). As a part-time, amateur musician, I find this increasingly frustrating. And while I'm jealous that the Cleveland area doesn't have anything like it, I am quite pleased that the Cincinnati area has (1) an incredible bevy of talented musicians who are still going at it for the art and not the commerce, and (2) you have the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards! How cool! Don't ever lose this scene, Cincy - what a wonderful environment to live in. I hope it goes on forever! p.s. Akron does have The Lime Spider, a great club downtown - and a perfect place for the 'dots to play (hint, hint!) I've died and gone to heaven! 9 glorious new songs (well, okay - maybe not all are new, but it's great to have studio versions of these classic 'dots tunes). These guys are so good - this beats ANYTHING the big record companies put out. While I'm glad the boys are a little-known secret (among the thousands of 'dots fans everywhere, at least), it still kills me that they never made it big. What is wrong with the world? Yeah, I would've loved one or two more songs on the disc, but I'm not complaining - that only leaves me clamoring for more.
