Cincinnati Post http://www.cincypost.com/2005/03/24/bird032405.html George's 'Stumblingham' an instrumental toe-tapper The forgotten art of the rock instrumental is in good hands with veteran Cincinnati guitarist George Cunningham on his new CD, "Stumblingham," a great collection of quirky rock solos that range from surf twang to Celtic jigs, with a touch of Latin and Mideast vibes thrown in. Let's face it, rock instrumentals can sometimes be boring as guitarists endlessly spew notes and show off their proficiency. Cunningham, with the help of producer Chris Arduser, refreshingly treats his instrumentals as elegant, intricate songs, each with its own personality. While his styles are diverse, this is ultimately a catchy toe-tapping album you can hum along to, which is saying a lot for an instrumental collection. Cunningham cleverly mixes acoustic finger picking with fuzzy electric playing on the disc. "I didn't want to have a bunch of endless rock solos. There really aren't a lot of jams going on. I treat them like pop songs, sometimes with the guitar or a mandolin as the singer," Cunningham said. Cunningham is a veteran of several local bands including the rockabilly Warsaw Falcons, Arduser's rootsy Graveblankets and Brian Lovely's "gypsy jazz" of the Faux Frenchmen. He delightfully brings all those genres together on one of the more listenable instrumental projects you'll hear in some time. Cunningham will play his songs at noon Saturday on WNKU-FM (89.7). He will perform at Everybody's Records, Pleasant Ridge, at 3 p.m. Saturday. The official release party is April 12 at the Northside Tavern. ++ psychodots ++ Date: Tue, 29 Mar 2005 07:53:23 -0500 From: Mary Bosken Subject: T. Pink dates.... Pete pokes forth! >From the Martyrs' website, as per the 14-May-05 show, it's: Swinger Psychodots Epicycle "In previous incarnations, the Psychodots were known as the Raisins (prior to that as 'The Raisin Band'), and the Bears. The Raisins were: Rob Fetters on Guitar, Bad Bob Nyswonger on Bass and occasionally a big nasty moog keyboard that hated to stay in tune, Bam-Bam Powell (called Bam, because his name was Rick, same as the keyboardist...."Might get a bit confusing...mind if we call you Bruce?"...) on Drums and Rick Neiheisel on keys. (It's spelled Neiheisel on the record, and Nihisel on Everything and More. I dunno.) Everybody sang. Originally, Chris Arduser played drums, and Tim Toth was on keys, but that lineup only lasted about 1-2 years." I'm sure that they meant well. I can only hope to be there and help with the updating of their impression! A road trip looms...
