Cincinnati's authentic bayou band, Robin Lacy and DeZydeco, are joining with key tickler Ricky Nye (performing as drag diva Vicki D'Salle) and the Red Hots for an evening sure to rev up the revelers on Friday. Then, Lacy is back with his crew for any Krewes out cruising for a New Orleans-style celebration on Saturday. "I couldn't be happier," said Esther Johnson, who owns the Madison. "We had a CD release party with these two (groups) earlier and it was a wonderful evening. I can't even imagine how much fun this will be." Costumes are welcome at the 18-and-older Madison's Mardi Gras gatherings. "And you know there'll be beads for everyone," said Johnson. "Robin's already told me he's bringing plenty of beads to toss to the crowd." "We love the Madison," said Lacy. "Love playing there. It's a great place with room for folks to get up and dance. We had a good time there with Ricky for the CD party, so we're really looking forward to it." Of course the bar will be open serving a full range of drinks, including the traditional Hurricane. And great New Orleans-style food will be available from Cincinnati's own Mr. Pig. And if you're worried about which Mardi party to attend, there's really no need for anyone to choose between the two. The timing should be perfect for anyone who wants to watch the MainStrasse parades and then move across town to the Madison. The parades are set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. The Madison opens at 8 with music set to begin at 9. "We're close enough that people can really do both," said Johnson. "Anything that brings people into Covington is a good thing. Good for all our businesses." "I don't think we'll have a problem filling our entertainment tent," said Donna Kremer, administrative coordinator for MainStrasse Village. "I don't see any reason why we should worry about competing with each other. I'm sure there are plenty of people for all the Mardi Gras parties." With prices kept low ($5 at the Madison and $10 in MainStrasse) splitting time between the two events is certainly a possibility. The Madison Theater (859) 655-4807 is located at 703 Madison Ave. in Covington. And for those who want to keep the good times rolling, there are other celebrations throughout the area. Saturday at Cincinnati's Findlay Market in Over-the-Rhine, they'll be dancing (and cooking and eating) in the streets as the market brings in live music and celebrity chefs to help commemorate Fat Tuesday in style. Chefs for the cooking demonstrations include Julie Francis (9 a.m.), Todd Shanks (10 a.m.), Leonard Hollander (11 a.m.), Jackson Rouse (noon) and Melissa Cox-Howard (1 p.m.). Each will prepare Cajun specialties, which will be available for tasting. The grand procession and crowning of the king and queen will begin at 11 a.m. Music provided by Lagniappe (10 a.m.), Robin Lacy and DeZydeco (noon) and Ricky Nye (1:30 p.m.) will help keep things lively. Beads and masks will be presented to all in attendance. Families are welcome. Findlay Market is located on Elder street between Race and Elm in Over-the-Rhine.
