John A. and others torched it. I remember it well cause a night or two later we all did some really awful drugs. I did two hits like an idiot and I've been f**ked up for the past 31 years. Rob thanks for mentioning the Grande Ballroom -- I've been trying to remember the name of it. (See para. one) I remember the Mountain concerts and do you remember when we went to see "FREE" and got mugged. What a trip its been! "FutureWorld" on 97X late night hosted by Shiv. Legal tripping! 2. Mr. Rhythm Man, Saturday evening on WNKU. He oughta be in the Hall of Fame. 3. Paavo Jarvi and the CSO. The best band in town is really rockin' now, led by one bad-ass Estonian. It amazes me that every concert isn't a sell-out. 4. Steve Earle at Tall Stacks. Aggression + humility. 5. The White Stripes and Whirlwind Heat at Bogart's. The similarity to experiencing The MC5 and The Stooges at the Grande Ballroom (Detroit) in 1971 was beautiful, but I might have been the only one there lucky enough to know it first hand. I took my 12-year-old son, Sam, and he just asked me for the first Stooges album for Christmas. 6. John Hammond at Tall Stacks. Anthropology. 7. Los Lobos at Tall Stacks. Religion. 8. Karin Bergquist performing "Ohio" at the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards ceremony (pictured). A master musician who made the horrid Old St. George acoustics work to her advantage. 9. The European record producers for American Idol using Sound Images (where I work) to record, Autotune and edit Ruben Studdard. A freak learning experience. And they kindly left their software installed on my computer! 10. Blackberry Belle by the Twilight Singers. Speaking of Autotuners . excellent everything. Brown" Subject: adrian on antiques roadshow On today's show from Indianapolis, a person had a guitar on the show that had 100s of musicians autographs on it. He said he traveled extensively collecting signatures. They pointed out a dozen or so - Johnny Cash, Johnny Winter, Peter, Paul and Mary, Stevie Ray Vaughan. While the camera was panning close ups of the signatures, "adrian belew" was shown twice. Here's the latest update from Pike 27 (Dave Purcell, Sean Rhiney, Mark Messerly, George Cunningham and Tommy Huesman): ______________________ Saturday, January 24, 9:30pm York Street Cafe Come out this Saturday to catch the battle of Indianapolis vs. Cincinnati. We, along with our Stapletons homeboys, will strive to defend the Queen City's honor against the invading Indy force of Citizens Band and Hypnotic Velvet Propellers. We're pretty sure that our amps are louder, our women are prettier, and our rock is harder. (If nothing else, we'll just confuse them with big words. They're Hoosiers, after all.) The night will go something like this (all times heavy on the -ish): 9:30-10:10 HV 10:25-11:05 Pike 27 11:20-12:00 CB 12:15-1am The Stapletons Cheers, Dave -- dave purcell http://www.pike27.net/ Radio Free Newport: http://www.pike27.net/rfn/ _______________________ All for now.... Most of us have heard Chris say "We tune because we care" at graveblankets, psychodots, and bears shows. He has attributed the line to Jimi Hendrix. I was watching a Hendrix video this week. Before playing Wild Thing, he said "Please be quiet for a second, I'm trying to tune my guitar. We're tuning because we care for your ears." Then he smiled and said "That is why we don't play as loud." After briefly tuning, he said, "We're going to play a group therapy song. Please sing together or we will put a curse on you and your kids. All your kids will be born completely naked." At the end of Wild Thing, he repeatedly banged his guitar against his amp. Then he lifted it above his head and tossed it about 10 feet. Good thing he tuned!! This show was May 1967 in Blackpool, England, a month before the Monterey show where he set his guitar on fire.
