"The Saturday Night Guitar Pull: Cincinnati Vol. 1" is the labor of love for Jim McKell and his Cincinnati-based brother, Dave, who capture spontaneous acoustic live recordings of musicians usually performing their own material. They have released "Guitar Pull" CDs featuring the local scene in Nashville and Columbus. The Cincinnati project is a true local all-star line-up featuring Larry and Tim Goshorn, Kenny Poole, Marcos Sastre, Bam Powell, Kelly Red, Rick Marksberry, Roscoe Justice and Kevin Fox. And, yes, two piano men have their say, too, amidst the guitars, with cuts from Ricky Nye and Steve Schmidt. The release is part session and part spontaneous. It's short of being a live concert, still a polished effort while still retaining the improv feel. "We don't pretend that this is the Cincinnati music scene. It's just a slice of one night when we managed to get a lot of great players together," explained Dave McKell. "We wanted to create a relaxed session with people sitting together. It's amazing how these guys can just sit down and play together." Mission accomplished. The project feels like it's Saturday night and time to kick back, swap some tunes and lay down some licks.
