Okay, Cableingham ++ psychodots ++ Date: Wed, 5 Nov 2003 21:23:08 -0500 From: Mary Bosken Subject: Piano Summit/Ricky Nye City Beat November 5, 2003 Spill It, by Mike Breen For the entire column, go to: http://www.citybeat.com/current/musicspillit.shtml Pianist Ricky Nye hosts his fifth annual Blues & Boogie Piano Summit concert on Saturday at the Southgate House. Each year, Nye (the local Blues & Boogie master) invites Boogie Woogie piano artists from around the world to participate in the Summit. This year's show features Ann Rabson from SAPPHIRE: The Uppity Blues Women, Barrelhouse Chuck from Chicago and Louisiana-born Charlie Booty. More information can be found at rickynye.com. Also in the same article City Nights, a local cable access show that regularly features local musical guests, have compiled some of the best performances for the new CD, 14 Nights. The disc is a decent representation of the local music scene, featuring some of the area's best acts, though the live-recording format doesn't do some of them justice. The acoustic tracks seem to work best, with Maurice Mattei's "Not Enough to Stay," Greg Mahan's "Well I Know I Figured It Out," Tracy Walker's "Blue" and Jake Speed and the Freddies' white-flight anthem, "Leavin' Cincinnati," serving as highlights. The disc also contains tracks from The Graveblankets, Ryan Adcock, Brian Lovely, Tonefarmer, The Stardevils, Lomax, The Balance All-Stars, Langus and Homunculus. Proceeds from the project will go to music education charities Lonely Instruments for Needy Kids (LINKS) and the VH-1 Save The Music Foundation. On Nov. 6, Langus, Mahan, Speed, Mattei and The Graveblankets will play the compilation's CD release party at the Madison Theatre in Covington. ++ psychodots ++ End of Psycho Depot 367 Nov 6, 2003 Comments, suggestions, postings, and administrative or the switch between digest and daily versions of the Depot (or be on both!): Mike Brown depot @ psychodots.com To order psychodot merchandise: contact Stan Hertzman of Umbrella Artists and Strugglebaby Records shertzman@cinci.rr.com 513 871-1500 Voice 513 871-1510 Fax and Hal Bernard Enterprises, Inc., 2612 Erie Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45208 For back issues (2 ways): Email: Tony Nowikowski tony@nowikowski.com or Web Site: http://home.insightbb.com/~p-dots/ Check out the psychodot Home Page at: http://www.psychodots.com Check out the graveblankets Home Page at: http://graveblankets.com Check out the Bears Home Page at: http://www.thebearsmusic.com Check out the Ricky Nye Home Page at: http://www.rickynye.com
