Hola! Unless the Dayton Daily News makes a last minute addition to the Friday edition, you're not likely to see this elsewhere... Here's writer Fred Kraus' take on tomorrow night's Canal Street tavern show: What: Triple bill of Bucket, Graveblankets, solo Rob Fetters Where: Canal Street Tavern (smoke-free show) 308 E. First St. 461-9343 When: Friday, June 6, at 8 p.m. Tickets: $10 While keeping track of the Cincinnati-based power pop trio known as psychodots challenges our meager minds, the Friday, June 6, show at Canal Street provides a primer of sorts. The triple bill features some of the musical projec ts of the three singer/songwriter/musicians who make up the oft-on-hiatus 'dots. "We've never tried the triple bill thing -- this is a first,'' said psychodots bassist Bob Nyswonger of the jam-packed lineup Bucket, Graveblankets, and solo Rob Fetters. "Actually, it was (Canal Street owner) Mick Montgomery's idea and everyone said, 'OK, why not?' It's just a chance for fans of what we do to hear a lot of music at one show." Nyswonger stays fairly active with Bucket, a blues-based quartet with country influences, playing out two or three times a month. Drummer/guitarist/mandolinist Chris Arduser has scaled back activity with his group, The Graveblankets, but its bluegrass-tinged country pop always features his finely crafted songs. He has written some new Graveblankets tunes and is working on the next release for that group. 'Dots guitarist extraordinaire Rob Fetters rarely goes solo (the last was opening for Marshall Crenshaw about two years ago), but this gig will see him performing some new material as well as pulling out some seldom-heard tunes, said Nyswonger. The three expatriate 'dots continue to work on songs for the next Bears release, for which they will again team with longtime musical comrade Adrian Belew. And all that's really just the tip of the iceberg. They have side projects lining up next to side projects. For those wondering about an impromptu psychodots medley taking place with all three musicians under one roof -- um, chances are it won't happen, said Nyswonger. "I don't think this will be any sort of 'Dots show other than the fact that we'll all be there in different configurations." Still, that's enough musical wattage in the house to light up 5/3 Field. And that should be treat enough for just about everyone. See ya tomorrow! For those of us that were *not* able to make the show... =( ALSO: Did anyone ever notice that the Foo Fighter's song "All my life" could very well be a Dots song?? I was listening to the song in my car one day, when I got to thinking about how much it sounds like a good Dots rocker... At least to me!! The next day, my wife asked me: " Did you notice how that Foo Fighters song sounds a lot like the Dots??" Are we crazy? Or - Is it just qualiy "quirky pop" ?? ;-) Thanks, RacinTracy Doyle ++ psychodots ++ Date: Mon, 9 Jun 2003 09:14:46 -0500 From: "Riley, Paul" Subject: RE: Psycho Depot Issue 352 Hello to all My name is Paul Riley along with my partner Steve Simon we are proud to announce that we have booked the Psychodots to perform at Clancy's Night Club in Indianapolis,Ind. on Aug 1st Tickets will be $ 10.00 at the door the show will start at 9:00 pm Indy time 10:00 pm cincy time.
