Not that I'm complaining, just countering the apparent perception > that Dots fans only want to hear the "hits". I'm with you, Dave! The perception that people "only want to hear the hits" is misguided, I think. If that was the case, then why didn't they just play "Artichoke", "Fear", "Stella", and the like when they first reunited back in late '88 as the raisins and never write another song? There was a plethora of great stuff from the pre-Bears days that we all wanted desperately to hear again, and were delighted to experience early-on. Then, came great new tunes: "A Walk In the Garden", "Number One", "Master of Disaster", "Death Ranch", etc. Hell! I remember the first time they played "The Problem Song"!! Rob still had the words on a sheet of notebook paper taped to his microphone stand! It was my birthday (1991 as I recall thru my slightly disjointed grey matter) and we were all gathered at Hot Shots (now known as TopCat's) and I (along with the majority of the room) was FLOORED!! THAT'S what kept us coming back! You never knew when a new gem would be dropped in your lap and kick your ass right out of the seat (if you were lucky enough to have one). THAT'S what it was all about! The year before that (again, my birthday) I got permission from the band to video tape a show at Ripley's. About half-way thru the first set, the band announced that they were going to play a new one. They encouraged me to come closer with the video camera to capture the moment, which I did in a most hap-hazard sort of way. Anyway, they broke into this great song about "a modern caveman sitting by the fire"! Hell YEAH!! Another moment was an incredibly snowy evening in late '93 or early '94 (again, that pesky grey matter). A respectable gathering was in place for yet another evening with the 'dots at East End Cafe. It was amazing that ANYONE made it that night with the blizzard that was going on outside, but we showed, and so did our favorite local trio. Near the end of the first set, Rob announced that they were going to attempt a new one, which delighted those of us lucky enough to be there. And they played this amazing song that I could not get out of my head for days. I told everyone I knew (that didn't make it to the show that night) about this great new 'dots tune. The next show, most everyone I knew was there and when they went into the song, I started yelling "This is it, this is it!!!" The song was "Big Love Now". These are moments I'll never forget. Sure, the favorites were always great to hear, and still are, but I really don't think that the true fans only want the same set list in a slightly different order everytime we get the rare chance to be in front of such a talented trio. It's obvious with the Bears reunion (not to mention the Graveblankets and Bucket performances) that songwriting continues with these gentlemen. I'm sure that there are some songs that each of them would like to share with the other two and see what develops. And I, personally, wouldn't mind a resurrection of some quirky ditties from the past. I'd place my vote for specific songs, but fear that they'd be put on the permanent rejection list for doing so. All I'm saying is, true lovers of the band (in my opinion) would love for the song list to get a little "shake-up". I think a handfull of new tunes would be lovingly welcomed. I think half-a-handful of "off-the-wall" obscure gems from the past would also be met with surprised smiles and dislodge some great memories. I was delighted to hear "Laura" during the last "T-Day World Tour" in '02. And I know there are some new tunes lurking that would bowl all of us over. " So, c'mon guys! Walk that tightrope like you used to do and take us down some new, untraveled paths! We'll all be right there with you. That's why we keep showing up... I'm always in psychodot heaven when they reunite but I wouldn't mind more obscure songs either. I'd take anything they'd like to play.....so that said, one song just keeps getting muttered from the "dance floor" and that song is - STELLA! Yes, I hear fans say it each and every reunion, "will they play Stella?" So if I had to suggest one song from the past, that would be my request. All for now......
