With the win over Hillcrest on Saturday, the Galesburg Silver Streaks moved to 26-3 on the season going into Thursday's final home game of the season.  Thursday will also mark our Senior Night celebration as we honor the seven seniors who have been so instrumental to the success of our season thus far.  Alison Bauchman, Casey Berry, Erin Bruner, Amanda Gunther, Elizabeth Hauslein, Erin Line, and Annie Parkin will all be recognized for their contributions to the girls basketball program over the last 4 years.

In the sophomore contest last Saturday, the sophomore team improved to 22-0 and set two more team records along the way.  In the 92-64 win, the team set a record for number of points scored in a game breaking the previous high of 85 set earlier this year against Chicago (Maria).  Freshman Libby White's 12 assists gave her the single game assist record.  Congratulations Libby.

On Thursday night, as the sophomore team goes for it's undefeated season, WAIK will broadcast the game live starting at 6pm Central time to help honor their accomplishments and efforts throughout the year.

The combination of Galesburg's sophomore and varsity 20-0 sweep of the Western Big 6 conference may be the first time that any conference team has accomplished the feat.  Several teams have had one team or the other go undefeated in the conference but never has both teams been in that situation.

In yesterday's 65-52 win at Sterling, the GHS sophomores moved to 20-0 on the season and were backed by LaToya Wright's record setting day.  The sophomore forward threw down 35 points and collected 17 rebounds.  Her 35 points beat Ashley Shepherd's mark of 34 points in a December 22, 1998 game vs. Peoria Manual.  The 17 rebounds she gathered ties a sophomore rebounding record set by four former Streaks players (Ashley Shepherd, Katie McCants, Gina Miller, and Heather Aten).  Congratulations LaToya!

Galesburg will open its final home stand of the season on Thursday, February, 6.  The 3 game home stand will truly be the last of the year, as Galesburg has been assigned to the Ottawa Regional when state series play begins on February 17.
