The Best of The Worst |

James Bond, naked chicks and a big floating head that spits out guns...you gotta love this movie! I saw this when I was a lot younger and it always stuck with me. This was a Sean Connery movie after he quit being Bond. I'd imagine that if it was an American production, Charlton Heston would have been in the lead as it's another Sci Fi Post Apocalyptic movie like The Omega Man. Connery plays Zed an enforcer for the Brutals, savage people living outside the Vortex. Inside the Vortexes live the Eternals, survivors made immortal by a super computer that clones them should they die. Like Michael Moorcock's books "The Dancers at the End of Time" these Eternals have become bored with living, and would choose death over continued tedium. Zed hides away inside the giant floating head of the god Zardoz and gets inside the Vortex. The Eternals want to waqtch him, for entertainment as well as scientific discovery. Things get really psychedellic in the end, and the truth behind the name of Zardoz I thought was great when I first saw the movie. It's an odd piece of film, but worth a watch, either to admire the thinking that went into the story or to see Sean Connery dressed funny raping and killing for his false god. Oh and a young Charlotte Rampling has a topless scene. So, enjoy it as thoughtful art or mindless violence, but watch ZARDOZ! |
