The Best of The Worst |

Ok, I love this movie...but to be fair, most of that is nostalgia. I was a big Star Wars fan and I saw this at the drive-in when it was released in the US two years after Star Wars. I searched for years to see "The Adventures of Stella Star" again, because of the sexy Caroline Munro (a Bond girl) in Barbarella style costumes and the android with the Texas accent. To be fair, I still love it for the same reasons, but appreciate it on a whole new level. What was awe inspiring at a young age is laughable now. The story is simplistic, the dialogue is bad, the special effects are colorful, but not at all realistic. Now it stands as a classic cheesy sci-fi romp through the twisted vision of Italian film makers. Notable in this movie is a young David Hasselhoff as the Prince, Christopher Plummer in a shiny armored suit as the Emperor. Also, Marjoe Gortner as the energy manipulating Akton, his blonde afro has to be seen, it's even more insane because of the stupid grin that never leaves his face. Another fun note is on the DVD extras I found out that Marjoe had been a child evangelist, before he took to acting! Please watch this with your friends and laugh it up. |
