Before there was Xena there was Hundra! This B movie was shot in Italy and almost got a theatrical release in the states, unfortunately it faded into relative obscurity. The opening scene is a fantasic piece of action, where her entire village is wiped out much like the young Conan's. Originally just a female Conan knock off, according to the director just before they started shooting he decided to have the script rewritten to make it deeper, adding elements of feminism and supposedly making it a commentary about male/female relations through the ages. Whatever. There's plenty of action from star Lorene Landon who did almost all of her own stunts. I remember her from one of the early VHS rental releases "Yellow Hair and the Fortress of Gold."

I have a spoft spot of these early 80's B movies, and this is a special treat. I'm sure I would have really enjoyed it had it been released here in the states. Landon recounts trying out for the role of Red Sonja, only to be turned down when they realized that she had been Hundra. The movie is full of sex and violence....although I was a little disappointed by the amount of nude scenes of Hundra herself. Basically she is on a quest to get laid and create a daughter to keep her tribe's beliefs from being lost. Not bad motivation. The funny thing is, my favorite character was "Beast" her dog.
