The Best of The Worst |

I bet you never heard of DRIVE. I stumbled across it already in progress on cable one night, and found it to be a fun movie. Ends up it's directed by a man I've met, and am a big fan of, Steve Wang. The movie went straight to cable here in the states, but the director's cut won Fant-Asia Film Festival: Best International Film. Steve was behind the Guyver films and he's also the SFX wizard behind most of the cool sci-fi flicks including Gremlins and Predator., even a Batman movie. The movie stars Mark Dacascos, this man just can't get a break, he was cool as Toby Wong in this film nobody saw, but he's also really good in Crying Freeman which didn't get a theatrical release here in the states either. I was lucky enough to get a VHS bootleg of Crying Freeman and really thought it was a great adaptation of the anime. But back to DRIVE...lots of graceful martial arts moves from Dacascos, some funny lines from Kadeem Hardison, and a young and very energetic Brittany Murphy. Together they face off against some bad guys with some crazy dialogue. Now this isn't your average buddy roadtrip movie, there's actually a sci-fi element to the plot. Dacascos has been fitted with a turbo-charged prototype heart that makes him superheroic. The Chinese bad guys want to stop him from selling it to a US corporation and have sent an army of men to retrieve his heart. Now he needs the help of an unlucky stranger to get him to safety. I enjoyed it and hope you will too. |
