LAS 2005 Goals

I would like to thank our members for a great 2004. Everyone worked together to make it a banner year in our society's history. Let's make 2005 even better. Here are some LAS goals for next year:

  1. Establish after-school astronomy programs. Don Tabbutt is spearheading this effort and he has already signed up St. Matthews Elementary. Eric Timerding has a strong group going at Crosby Middle School and we have received requests from St. X, St. Francis of Assisi, and a parent at Sacred Heart.

  2. Continue to improve Curby. This will include trailer rehab, installing the two meter dome, and going to Harrison County Community Foundation for funds.

  3. Fight light pollution through our new International Dark Sky Association membership. We will establish contacts with industry in Crawford County and work with Mark Steven Williams in Harrison County.

  4. Expand our Sidewalk Astronomy programs. Chris Thomas is putting together a calendar of events for 2005.

  5. Increase member education opportunities. I propose we hold new member symposiums covering telescope use, astrophotography, night sky navigation, and other subjects.

  6. Use our association with U of L, the Planetarium, and the Louisville Science Center for the mutual advantage of all parties. We are meeting with Dr. Kielkopf on these matters.

  7. Have FUN and do some social events that get us all to know each other better.
