Welcome to the 2007 Basic EMT course sponsored by Posey County EMS and Deaconess Hosptial.

I will post announcments on this page throughout the course, so please be sure to check it frequently.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. 812-499-0717 or click on my e-mail.

October 29, 2007: I decided to go ahead and post all of the questions from the test bank for next weeks test. You will have until Monday to work them out. The questions for the test will come from those, so if you work them all you should do well on the exam.

11/11/2007: Sorry I haven't posted the test and quiz grades. The trauma conference ate up most of my free time this weekend. I will have the grades up by noon on Monday (today). I have added a study guide for chapter 6 (respiratory) and Chapter 37 (advanced airway). Respiratory and combitube are the only things on the next test, so it should be very easy.

11/11/2007: I validated the test and threw out questions that more than 50% of the class missed. Test A lost questions: 1, 12, 29, and 41. Test B lost questions: 15, 29, 33, and 7. Your new grades are posted. Those questions were pretty straight forward and I will not be this generous on the next test.

11/15/2007: The test are graded and the scores are up. I'm a little disappointed that some of the scores were not better than they were. The study guides are giving you much of the information you need for the test. I will be posting a quiz that you can work on at home and bring to class on Monday. If you are unable to attend class on Monday, please make sure I receive the quiz before the class if you want credit. Remember, class will be at Black Township on Monday night. If anyone doesn't know where that is, please let me know. Also remember that there will be no class on Wednesday night (Happy Thanksgiving)!

11/16/2007: I posted a worksheet for everyone to complete. The worksheet is a blank version of your trauma assessment from the skill sheets. Please fill it out word-for-word, number-for-number. Feel free to use your practical skill sheets as a guide. The idea is that by writting it out, it will help you memorize it. This will count as a quiz and is worth 10 points. The document is under study guides.

The study guide for chapters 7, 8 and 10 are now posted. Please be sure to check this website often for any changes. I am going to move announcements to the opening page so everyone will see them.

11/28/2007: The study guide for chapters 11 and 12 is now posted. For those of you that were not in class on 11/28, the study guide will count as a quiz. Please complete it and turn it in on 12/03 for credit.

12/02/2007: I would like to address the issue of class attendance. I realize that some people work shift work and will occasionally miss class due to work. I am happy to take that into consideration, but, there are a minimum number of classes that people must attend to complete this course successfully.

12/27/2008: The test and quiz scores have been updated. As I announces in class, those who wish to gain some points back from test number 3 have the opportunity to gain back a half point for each question missed. Type out each question you missed and the answer you gave. Tell me why the answer is wrong, what the correct answer is and where you found it in the book. This is an all or nothing offer. You must do every question you missed, or none. This is due on January 2nd.

12/27/2008: I have posted the study guide for the next test over chapters 15, 16 and 17.

January 9, 2008: I have graded the test that I have received so far, and I am very unhappy. The gap between the scores is incredible. There is the group that has obviously put some effort into the class and all missed less than 10 on the test, and then there is the group that missed 20 and up. Between your books, the lecture and the study guides, there is absolutely no reason anyone should be missing more than 10 on these test - it is inexcusable! This is a certification that may at some point put someone elses life in your hands, I suggest that some of you begin to take it seriously. You all paid $475 to take this course, if you are not going to put the effort into it - you should have spent it more wisely. The anser sheets for Module 4 Exam A and B are under study guide.

January 10, 2008: For those of you that need a CPR card, A CPR class will be offered at the Mt. Vernon Fire Department on Saturday, January 26th. Details about the class will be provided in class.

January 10, 2008: I need your available days for your ambulance and ED observation times by next Monday in class. Please try to give me several days you are available for each so I can get everyone through without having to double anyone up.

January 14, 2008: I have posted updated test scores with your averages. If your average is below 80% you are currently not passing. The quiz scores will count as 1 test score to be added at the end of the class. I will be speaking to those not passing about what they need to do to continue.

January 16, 2008: The study guide for Chapters 22, 23, 24, and 25 are now posted.

January 28, 2008: I have updated your scores. I have also added the student information sheet under course documents. I need that sheet before you go to your clinical sites. I also need copies of your Hep-B records prior to you going to your clinical sites. Please bring both to class on Wednesday night.

February 4, 2008: I have posted the study guide for chapters 26 and 27. I have also updated the syllabus to reflect the changes with the test schedule.
