In Memory of Chris Benoit

In Memory of Chris Benoit

June 25, 2007 was a sad day for the business I used to love. Chris Benoit was one of the finest performers to ever step inside a professional wrestling ring. A student of the infamous Hart Dungeon, he was one of the few real mat technicians left in the game. Surrounded by mediocre workers in the modern era, most of whom couldn't wrestle their way out of a wet paper bag, ''The Canadian Crippler'' stood strong as a focal point for the traditional tenor. His no-nonsense style and ring generalship commanded respect from his peers, colleagues, and garnered love and admiration from his adoring fans across the globe who appreciated his rock-solid skills, inspiring technique, and the passionate intensity he displayed every single night he performed. A true in-ring talent -- he didn't rely on cheesy comedy, silly mic skills, adolescent catch-phrases, or cheap pops to get over. He busted his ass in the ring where it matters most and displayed a type of charisma that could only spawn from such a hard work ethic. A kind of flare mostly unseen in the business at this point.

I was saddened when I heard the news. He'll be sorely missed in the industry. Whatever the reasons surrounding the last few days of his personal life, his professional legacy as a performer and entertainer will remain intact and will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Chris.
