Indiana University as the Corinth of the Midwest: A Scholarly Study of 1 Corinthians.

Please come join us for an in-depth scholarly study of 1 Corinthians. Does Athens indeed have anything to do with Jerusalem? This question posed by Tertullian over a millenium ago still has relevance today. The philosophical and hedonistic intellectual and social culture of ancient Greece and Corinth in particular provide an apt analogy to many secular academic institutions including Indiana University.

No knowledge of Greek is required, but we will cover some of the major linguistic issues in the text especially regarding the philosophical sophia/gnosko contexts of 1 Corinthians. Optional readings from theological journals, dictionaries, lexicons. This early and relatively uncontested letter of the apostle Paul offers insight, discernment and hope for individuals, groups, cities, and cultures.

This will be the web site for information and resources for the Graduate InterVarsity Christian Fellowship small group Bible study on the book of 1st Cornithians.
